Senior Counsel John Matthews began his practice in general liability, premises liability and complex litigation in 1983. He has obtained favorable verdicts in all of his fifteen jury trials throughout Washington State and has handled over one hundred successful arbitrations. He has 35 years of experience successfully litigating cases. His practice also includes commercial, surplus–specialty and personal lines insurance defense.
In the 1980s he was on the team representing thermal insulation manufacturer Pittsburg-Corning in their cases venued in the United States District Court and the State Courts in Washington. He has prepared cases for trial handling plaintiffs’ depositions, expert discovery and motions for summary judgments.
Among his 15 successful jury trials is Warde vs. GAF Corporation (2000), an asbestos case venued in King County, Washington. Plaintiff's counsel were William Rutzick and Janet Rice of Schroeter Goldmark & Bender. John obtained a directed defense verdict after close of plaintiff’s case in this living mesothelioma matter. He joined the Firm’s Seattle office in 2005 as Senior Counsel.
