Barbara Schafer began her legal career with the firm of Tuverson & Hillyard in Newport Beach, CA in 1989, litigating in the areas of construction defect, bad faith, coverage, medical mal practice and personal injury, trying her first case to jury verdict with a defense award in 1989. Ms. Schafer moved to the firm of Wilson & Mains in 1991 where she defended members of USAA in various personal injury and homeowner liability law suits. She worked in their Long Beach and Newport Beach offices before moving north to help open the San Francisco office in 1995. In 2006, she became Executive Director Managing Trial Attorney of the San Francisco office and was involved in hiring attorneys, implementing new office procedures, managing costs, analyzing indemnity, mentoring staff and presenting lectures to claims personnel in the subject area of litigation process and procedure.

As a trial attorney, she tried personal injury lawsuits arising from premises liability and motor vehicle negligence in Southern California in the Downy and Orange County Superior Courts. She has also tried cases in Northern California, particularly in the San Francisco, Alameda, Santa Clara, Napa, and Contra Costa Superior Courts. She has served as an arbitrator for the San Francisco Superior Court and has arbitrated or mediated more than 100 cases (including binding UM/UIM), in the fields of automobile negligence, products liability, premises liability, and construction defect. She has tried 14 cases to jury verdict.

Ms. Schafer joined the San Francisco firm of Jackson & Wallace LLP as partner in July 2007.
