Mr. Shaffer was an extern law clerk to the Honorable Malcolm M. Lucas, Chief Justice, and to the Honorable John A. Arguelles, Associate Justice, of the California Supreme Court, where he analyzed petitions for review to the Supreme Court. He then began his practice with Hill Wynne Troop & Meisinger in Los Angeles, where he provided general corporate and securities counsel to major Hollywood film companies and financial institutions, respectively. He returned to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1990 and joined Critchlow, Diskant & Kapany, where he enjoyed a broad general civil litigation practice. In 1992, Mr. Shaffer joined Yount & Sampson, where his experience emphasized premises liability and auto liability defense, with some insurance coverage litigation. Mr. Shaffer then joined St. Peter & Cooper in 1995, where his practice focused on toxic tort defense, with some employment litigation where he was senior trial counsel for the firm. Mr. Shaffer has acted as an arbitrator for the Marin County Superior Court for five years, hearing a variety of personal injury matters, and has assisted the same court as a discovery referee and settlement conference panelist. From 1997 to present, Mr. Shaffer has volunteered his time as a Superior Court Judge Pro Tem for the Marin County Superior Court. Mr. Shaffer joined Jackson & Wallace LLP as a Senior Counsel in 2002.
